「国際女性デー」そして「女性史月間」にあたる３月。当プログラムでは、講師に徳島市の内藤佐和子市長、お茶の水女子大学の申きよん教授、Mine the Gap共同創始者ジェシカ・グラウンズ氏を迎え、日米の政治分野における女性の活躍とその促進について考察していきます。プログラム後半では参加者の皆さんとのQ＆Aの時間を設けています。またこのプログラム内でアメリカ大使館から「勇気ある女性賞」の特別表彰式も行われ、その様子はアメリカ大使館Facebookライブから配信されます。（同時通訳付き。）

徳島市長

令和２年４月公選により徳島市長に就任。徳島文理高等学校卒業後、株式会社応神鉄工取締役、まちづくりグループ「徳島活性化委員会」代表を歴任。東京大学法学部政治コース卒業。

Mine the Gap 共同創設者 

持続的でインクルーシブな組織作りを目指すコンサルティング会社 Mine the Gap 共同創設者。当社はAmazon Web Services, National Geographic Society, Facebookなど大手企業も含め多くの企業や団体にリーダーシップ育成やパフォーマンス向上の助言を行っている。当社を創設する前には、女性の政治参画を支援するRunning Startの共同創設者としてエグゼクティブ・ディレクターを歴任。またWomen Under Forty Political Action Committeeの代表として政治家を目指す多くの若者に助言をし、母校であるペパーダイン大学では「女性と政治」をテーマに教鞭に立つなど、多彩な経歴を持つ。ジョージタウン大学マクドノー・スクール・オブ・ビジネスからリーダーシップ学修士号を修了。

“Women’s Political Leadership in a post-COVID World” 

To commemorate March as Women’s History Month, as well as International Women’s Day, this program will focus on the promotion and advancement of women, who aspire to hold political office and positions of leadership in Japan and the United States. Speakers include: Tokushima Mayor Sawako Naito, Ochanomizu University Associate Professor and Co-Founder of Academy for Gender Parity Dr. Kiyoung Shin, and Mine the Gap Co-Founder Jessica Grounds. The presentations will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience. This program will also include a special presentation of the U.S. Mission’s International Women of Courage Award. The event is on-the-record, open to the press, will feature simultaneous English-Japanese interpretation, live captioning, and will be livestreamed to the U.S. Embassy’s Facebook page.

◇Speakers’ Bio:

Ms. Sawako Naito, Mayor, Tokushima city

Graduated from Tokushima Bunri High School in March 2003, Ms. Naito became a board member of Ojin Tekko Co. Ltd., served as a representative of the “Tokushima Revitalization Committee” and community development group.  In April 2020, she was elected as Mayor of Tokushima city, running as an independent and unseating incumbent to become Japan’s youngest woman mayor at age 36.   She graduated from from the Political Science Course at the University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Law.

Ms. Jessica Grounds, Co-Founder, Mine the Gap 

Jessica Grounds is a recognized thought leader in the space of women’s leadership. She was named to Marie Claire’s List of 50 Most Influential Women.  She has founded and led multiple organizations to advance women in leadership.  As the Co-Founder of Mine the Gap, she equips leaders, industries, and organizations with the strategy to create and sustain gender-inclusive work environments. She has worked with industry leaders, including, Amazon, National Geographic, and Facebook.  Jessica holds Masters in Leadership from the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University and a graduate certificate in Women, Policy, and Political Leadership from the Women & Politics Institute at American University.  She has published cutting-edge research on women’s leadership in Congress and the private sector.  In 2018 she was named “40 Under 40” recipient by the American Association of Political Consultants. Jessica graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Pepperdine University. She currently teaches the Women and Politics course at her alma mater. 

Dr. Ki-young Shin, Professor, Ochanomizu University 
Dr. Ki-young Shin is Professor in the Graduate School of Humanities and Sciences and the Institute for Gender Studies at Ochanomizu University. Ph.D. in Political Science. Her research interests include women’s political representation, comparative women’s movements, #MeToo, and gender policies in East Asia. She organized an East Asian Research Network on Gender and Diversity in Political Representation (WondeR) for comparative research on women’s political representation in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. Her recent works are published in international journals such as International Political Science Review, Politics & Gender, and Pacific Affairs, among others. She has contributed to edited volumes including the Oxford Handbook of Feminist Theory (Oxford Univ. Press 2015), Gender and Power (Palgrave McMillan 2015), as well as Japanese and Korean books. In 2018, she co-founded the Academy for Gender Parity for women’s political leadership education.
