【講演者略歴】

1965年神戸市生まれ。1988年一橋大学卒業後、日本興業銀行（現みずほ銀行）に入行。1993年ハーバード大学にてMBA取得。日本興業銀行を退職後、1996年クリムゾングループを設立。1997年2月株式会社エム・ディー・エム（現楽天株式会社）を設立し、同年5月インターネット・ショッピングモール「楽天市場」を開設。現在、楽天グループとして、Eコマース、フィンテック、モバイル、デジタルコンテンツなど多岐にわたる分野で70以上のサービスを提供する。また、2011年より東京フィルハーモニー交響楽団理事長を務めるほか、2012年6月に発足した一般社団法人新経済連盟の代表理事を務める。2016年には、イルミノックスTMプラットフォームと呼ばれる、がん細胞に対し選択性に優れた新しい治療技術の開発を行う楽天メディカル社（当時アスピリアンセラピューティクス社）の会長に任命され、2018年より同社CEOも務める。

As founder, chairman, and CEO of Rakuten, Inc. Mickey Mikitani is one of Japan’s most prominent industry leaders. During this webinar, we will hear about his study abroad experience and how studying in the U.S. influenced his business philosophy and achieving his dreams.

【About the Speaker】

Mickey Mikitani is the founder, chairman and CEO of Rakuten, Inc. Founded in Japan in 1997, Rakuten has grown to become one of the world’s leading internet services companies.

With a dynamic ecosystem of more than 70 services, spanning e-commerce, fintech, digital content and communications, Rakuten brings the joy of discovery to more than 1.4 billion members worldwide. Rakuten also became Japan’s newest mobile network operator in 2019.

Mikitani was educated at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo, began his career in investment banking, and earned his MBA at Harvard Business School. In 2012, he was awarded the HBS Alumni Achievement Award.

In 2011, he was appointed Chairman of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and serves as Representative Director of the Japan Association of New Economy (JANE). In 2016, he was appointed Chairman and Director of the biotechnology company Rakuten Medical, Inc., also taking up the role of CEO in 2018.
